Student Borrowing Privileges

Student Services

CSUB students and students of other CSUs who are currently enrolled in classes may check out materials at the Walter Stiern Library. CSUB students must have their CSUB ID cards for all transactions. CSU students must have their current CSU campus ID to qualify for checkout privileges.

How to Request Books for Locker Pick-Up

Library materials are still available by request for Locker-Pick Up, Mail Delivery, or Digitization Request. Please visit OneSearch on the library homepage to start your research. 

How to Request Items for Locker Pickup:

1. Find your item in OneSearch. Make sure that you are signed in. 

2. Under "Request Options" select "CSUB Lockers".

3. You will receive an email when your requested item(s) are ready for pick up. 

4. Once you receive the pickup email, you can retrieve your materials from the library lockers located near the 24/7 study room on the Library's first floor using one of the following options: 

  • Scan the included QR code at the kiosk. 
  • Enter your access code on the screen provided. 
  • Download the Luxer One app

5. Items will be held in the WSL lockers for 3 days. You will receive a notification when your item is removed from the locker and no longer available for pickup. 

LOCKER LOCATION: Walter Stiern Library, Lower Level West Entrance (near the 24 Hour Room). Lockers available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 

How to Request Books for Mail Delivery

How to Request Items for USPS Delivery:

1. Find your item in OneSearch. Make sure that you are signed in. 

2. Select "Request from CSUB".

3.  Under "Pickup Location", select "USPS Delivery"

4. Enter your home address into the "mailing address if USPS selected" box below.  

5. Requests will be mailed to the address entered. Please allow 2-4 weeks for processing and delivery. 

How to Request a Digital Chapter

1. Find your item in OneSearch. Make sure that you are signed in. 

2. Under "Request Options" select "Request Digital Chapter". 

3. Under "Details of Title You Requested" enter the chapters or pages you are requesting to be digitized. To support compliance with US Copyright law, the Stiern Library limits requests for digital content from any one title to no more than 2 chapters or not to exceed 10% of the title.

4. Please allow up to 24 hours for processing and delivery. 

Borrowing Laptops and iPads

Library iPads are currently available for a seven-day checkout period.

Laptops are available through the CSUB ITS Service Center. The process for acquiring a laptop can be found below: 

Any student interested in acquiring a laptop, Chromebook, or hotspots MUST apply online and wait for an email instructing them to come to Lab A to pick up their requested/approved equipment. They can apply here.

Returning Equipment

For Library Drop-Off

You can use our “dropoff” feature to return your equipment into one of our “WSL Lockers” located in the Walter W. Stiern Library, Lower Level West Entrance (facing the bus stop roundabout).

Once at the lockers, choose “Begin Dropoff” at locker screen to begin your return. Please be sure to include the bag, device, and charger you borrowed in your return.

If you borrowed a device from the IT Department: 

To return your laptop to IT, please bring it to Lab A on the Lower Level of the Stiern Library.

To access Lab A, please use the west entrance of the library's lower level (double doors facing the flagpole roundabout).

Course Reserves

Available for 2 hour, 24 hour, 3 day, and 7 day periods. Loan periods vary by item. 

Archives & Special Collections

Do Not Circulate. In-Library use may be arranged by appointment with the Archives or Reference Services Coordinator.

Reference, Indicies, Atlases, & Law

Maps, Music Scores

Do Not Circulate. Copiers, scanners and Microform Reader-Printers are available on Level 2.

Periodicals (Journals, Magazines & Newspapers)

Maximum total items per account:

99 items to include up to 2 viewing media or 10 listening media. 1 course reserve item per class may be checked out at a time.

Maximum charges for circulating items:

$25.00 for overdue viewing or listening media, course reserves, and iPad/laptops. Lost items are billed at the greater of $60.00 or the cost of replacement plus a non-refundable state-mandated service fee of $15, $10 for iPad/laptops.
